At Protocol International, we sincerely hope you all enjoyed a beautiful summer. Like we did. And we really wish you’re looking forward to an inspiring new season, just like we do. We’re more than excited to offer the following five open subscription training programmes in the second half of 2024 and beyond. Maryse Larché Mele and myself, as well as our distinguished guest speakers and associate partners, gladly welcome participants to truly engaging three-day training courses in Riyadh, Amsterdam, Dubai, Norfolk, and Osaka. The aim of these programmes is to provide a comprehensive understanding of international protocol, management of VVIP visits, diplomacy, negotiation techniques, intercultural dialogue, and strategic stakeholder engagement, while each module links theory to contemporary best practices. And always keeping in mind the local and regional flavours or needs. So for that reason, we’re pleased to announce our great ‘line-up’ of guest speakers!

In Amsterdam:

At the end of his diplomatic career, Karel van Oosterom will reflect on his extensive experience with international relations, high-level events, sensitive negotiations, as well as ceremonial pump and circumstance. Most recently, he served as Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and right before that as Dutch Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York. Karel will share all kinds of personal experiences, insights, and anecdotes at various geopolitical stages. Every participant will receive a copy of the book he wrote on the time in which the Netherlands had a seat on the Security Council (With an Orange Tie – A year on the Security Council).

Conny Wenting is an exceptional all-round business leader with an illustrious career spanning over 30 years, marked by her unwavering commitment to driving change and transformation. Conny has left an indelible mark on the global stage through her instrumental role in bringing the Invictus Games - an international sporting event for physically and mentally wounded veterans - to the Netherlands in 2022. As a trustee of the Invictus Games Foundation Board in the UK, she continues to champion the transformative power of sports in fostering social impact and empowerment, around the world. Get inspired by her storytelling!

In Osaka and Riyadh:

Our Protocol Consortium experts Andreja Wieser and Giovanni Criscione will share their wealth of experience in organizing mega events.

Andreja has been involved in senior positions at seven Olympic and Paralympic Games, and will give us extensive insights in the “Management of International Dignitaries and VIPs at Olympic and Paralympic Games”. She will present in-depth the International Dignitary Programmes, the role of protocol, its services, procedures, and coordination with diplomatic missions and government authorities.

Giovanni has been involved in the protocol departments of several World Fairs, including EXPO 2015 Milano, EXPO 2017 Astana, and EXPO 2020 Dubai. He will provide us with great insights into the  “Protocol Guest Journey at EXPO - A day in the life of a Protocol Officer during National Days”.

Together with Mark and Maryse, Andreja and Giovanni will also take part in a roundtable session about a joint project they worked on: “World Economic Forum Special Meeting on Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy for Development, 28 - 29 April 2024, Riyadh”. The secret power of protocol and its impact on such a global meeting will be discussed, including several key lessons learned.

In Dubai:

Our associate partner Maria Hall will thoroughly discuss protocol, business culture, psychometrics, and Royal engagements in the Middle East, with a special emphasis on the GCC region, based on her working experiences within Private Offices of Royal Family Members in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates.

Joseph El Hayek just finished working as protocol manager for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. He supervised proper compliance with the Olympic protocol imposed by the International Olympic Committee, including flags, anthems, and the participation of the Olympic Family in Victory ceremonies. He will share many interesting behind the scenes experiences and practical take-aways.

In Norfolk:

Aracelli Fullem worked at the Inter-American Development Bank for 32 years, before starting a career in coaching and consulting. She has a tremendous amount of hands-on experience as Senior Protocol Officer, having been responsible for all kinds of high-profile events, including visits of Heads of State, ceremonies, as well as the Annual Meetings of the Board of Governors. Intercultural communication is one of her passions, so this will certainly be covered in her guest lecture.

Jane Swensen was blessed with the opportunity to walk alongside of Mother Teresa in India, while volunteering with orphans, and at the dispensaries. Afterwards, she molded an interesting career in Washington, DC, working for her Congressman, serving as administrative director of the White House Millennium Council, working with the Danish Ambassador on protocol, in the Senate Commerce Committee, as well as the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities for Presidents Reagan, Bush, and Clinton. Undoubtedly, this will be a conversation covering all walks of life!

I sincerely hope you’re as excited as we’re about these upcoming training courses, so please spread the word, like the post, or sign up for one of the trainings on our website…!

Many thanks
